KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has set up a national committee to oversee the implementation of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
The committee will consist of representatives from the ministries and government agencies involved with the trade agreement.
It will mirror the set up of the TPP Joint Commission and subcommittees under the trade agreement.
Currently all 12 countries are completing domestic procedures to ratify the agreement which was signed on February 4.
"For Malaysia several laws will be amended especially three main areas - rules of origin, intellectual property rights (IPR) and labour - to ensure that we meet the obligations under the TPPA,"said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed in a statement.
Mustapa said he will continue to engage with the members of the Parliament in facilitating and monitoring the implementation.
"A separate consultative committee will also be formed - with industry players, business chambers, small and medium enterprises, non-governmental organisations and various other local stakeholders."
The committee will gather feedback and assess the impact of the implementation from time to time.
