KUANTAN: Malaysia's commitment to cut carbon emissions intensity of its Gross Domestic Products (GDP) by the year 2020 is on track, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said the pledge was on par with the target to cut carbon emissions intensity by 40 per cent by year 2020 to help tackle climate change and global warming.
"This year we have achieved 33 percent (carbon emission intensity)... this means our commitment is among the best in the world.
"To date, the government has spent some RM2.6billion to fund 200 green technology projects carried out throughout the country. Under the 11th Malaysian Plan, the government has set aside RM2.3billion to be utilised for green technology based projects," he said in his speech today before launching the Pekan Green Technology Park in Paloh Hinai here.
Najib said the Pekan Green Technology Park here will help to boast the economy and create job opportunities for the people living in the vicinity.
The RM1.5b plant, which is the first in the country, will be carried out in seven phases and the first phase will start operating in the first quarter of 2017.
