Smashing performance from M'sian youngsters in Romanian International

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s junior badminton squad put up a splendid performance after claiming three out of five titles in the 2016 Romanian International Series Badminton Championships which concluded at Constantin Jude Sports Hall in Bucharest on Sunday.

National backup men’s doubles pair, Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi claimed their second international title of the season after stunning the second seeds, Zvonimir’s siblings – Durkinjak/Hoelbling; winning in straight sets 21-13 and 21-9, according to Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org.

The young pair lifted their first senior title after emerging victorious in the 51st Portuguese International Series, last week.

Wong Fai Yin/Shevon Jemie Lai, on the other hand, claimed their first international title in their career after edging fellow teammates Ong Yew Sin/Peck Yen Wei; 21-15 and 21-17 in the mixed doubles event.

The 2015 world junior runner-up, Lee Ying Ying also secured her first international title after stunning fellow senior teammate, 15th seed Lim Yin Fun in 17-21, 21-13 and 21-9 in the women’s singles event.

Yen Wei who partnered Goh Yea Ching in the women’s doubles event, however, lost in straight sets of 15-21 and 19-21 to scratch pair Jessica Pugh/Cheryl Seinen (England/Netherlands).

The top seed, Pannawit Thongnuam of Thailand bagged the women’s singles title after beating Patrick Bjerregaard of Denmark; winning in 21-17 and 21-13. -- Bernama
