IPOH: A total 17,589 youths in Perak who have ventured into the agriculture sector as of last year are now realising the various initiatives of the state government.
State Rural Development, Agriculture, Plantation, Information and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad told the State Assembly here, today, among the initiatives was rejuvenating farmers organisations to continue luring youths.
“The aim of the programme is to encourage youths in agriculture and to empower them to spearhead development in the sector,” he said when answering to a question from Salbiah Mohamed (BN-Temenggor) who wanted to know on the participations of youths in agriculture since 2014. In addition, Saarani said under the programme, the Farmers’ Agriculture Club Corp (Kelab Kor Tani Peladang) was created to give exposure via training programmes and had 103 members as of December.
He said the state government also allocated a sum of money for schools involved in School Agriculture Clubs to encourage students to join the sector (when they leave school).
For example, he said the state government gave RM10,000 to Kolej Vokasional Pertanian Teluk Intan and Sekolah Menengah Batu 4, Grik for their clubs’ activities. -- Bernama
