KUALA LUMPUR: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St John will revert to its old name, St John's Institution.
Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, in announcing this today, expressed his gratitude to the education minister for fulfilling the Johannians' request to have their old name back.
"I was told that the school's board of governors and St John Institution's Alumni association and its Parents Teachers Association (PTA) has the true Johannian spirit, and that every Johannian felt like they had lost their identity when the school's name was changed," he said.
Therefore, Sultan Nazrin said all Johannians had wanted for the school to revert to its original name, St John's institution.
"I thank the minister, and the Ministry of Education for fulfilling the Johannians' plea," he said.
Sultan Nazrin was at the school today to attend its Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony.
Also at the event was Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid and Education director-general Datuk Seri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof.
