TAIPING: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, took time out of his busy schedule today to visit the Taiping Lake Gardens, which has been drying up for almost a month.
He was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Saarani, in his Facebook post, said Sultan Nazrin expressed concern over the water situation at the Taiping Lake Gardens and thus visited the recreational area this evening.
"Earlier, Their Royal Highnesses officiated at the Taiping Syariah Court before inspecting the water level at the lake, which was reported to have decreased significantly due to the recent dry weather.
"They also took time to mingle with the people there. Dirgahayu Tuanku," the post said, accompanied by the hashtags #RajaDanRakyatBerpisahTiada and #PerakSejahtera2030.
In the morning, Sultan Nazrin officially opened the 7th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT) in Ipoh.
It was reported that the hot weather, caused by the ongoing Southwest Monsoon, has not only restricted daily activities but has also impacted one of the district's must-visit spots, the Taiping Lake Gardens.
Checks by the New Straits Times revealed that part of the lake is drying up, leading to slight changes in the landscape.
Meanwhile, Saarani said on Thursday there was no need to conduct cloud seeding over Taiping Lake Gardens as it is only a recreational area.
Saarani said the Taiping Lake did not serve the same function as the Bukit Merah Dam, which provides water for domestic use and agriculture.
