KUALA LUMPUR -- Lee Chong Wei produced a superb performance to clinch the men’s singles title at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Wuhan, China today.
The 34-year-old Malaysian, who defeated his nemesis Lin Dan of China in the semi-finals yesterday was once again in sublime form as he dispatched world No 1 and local favourite Chen Long 21-17, 15-21, 21-13 in the final.
The title is Chong Wei’s third this year after winning the Malaysia Masters GP Gold in January and the Malaysia Open last month.
It is also Chong Wei’s second Asian crown, after winning it last in 2006.
Chong Wei, pocketed US$15,000 (approximately RM58,700) in prize money while Chen Long settled for US$7,600 (approximately RM29,700)
The former world No 1 - whose main focus is the Rio Olympics in August - will return to Kuala Lumpur first where he will join the rest of his Malaysian teammates as they gear up for the Thomas Cup in Kunshan, China on May 15-22
