KUALA LUMPUR: After a week-long screening, the Indonesian romance drama Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2, has reaped in more than RM2.5 million in box office takings, making it the highest grossing Indonesian film in Malaysia.
The highly-anticipated sequel of the hit 2002 movie, is currently showing at a total of 100 cinemas here and in Brunei.
In a statement today, its distributor Primeworks Distribution said that the box office collection of Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2 is expected to increase steadily over the next week, as many viewers are viewing it more than once.
The revenue gained from the movie was beyond their expectations despite competition from other international titles which opened on the same week.
AADC2 is directed by Riri Riza and is produced by Mira Lesmana. Nicholas Saputra, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Adinia Wirasti and Titi Kamal returned to reprise their roles in the sequel.
The movie, which opened on April 28, saw a collection of more than RM300,000 on the first day of its screening. Last Sunday, it reached the RM1 million mark.
