KUALA LUMPUR: The highest-grossing Indonesian movie in Malaysia, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2, has now raked in over RM4 million at the box office after 12 days of screening.
The romance comedy-drama which made award-winning actors Nicholas Saputra and Dian Sastrowardoyo household names in both countries, collected more than RM300,000 on the first day of its screening on April 28 and reached the RM1 million mark just after four days. Takings reached RM2.5 million in a week.
In a statement today, its distributor Primeworks Distribution said that the box office collection of Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2 (AADC2) is still increasing, and it has been viewed repeatedly by audiences in 100 cinemas over here and in Brunei.
The revenue gained from the movie was beyond their expectations despite competition from other international titles which opened on the same week.
AADC2 is directed by Riri Riza and is produced by Mira Lesmana. It is the sequel to the popular 2002 romantic comedy-drama Ada Apa Dengan Cinta which highlighted Indonesian popular culture and social issues through the eyes of poetry-loving, secondary schoolmates Cinta and Rangga.
In this sequel, 14 years after the original, Rangga seeks to reconcile with Cinta in Jogjakarta, after he abruptly ended their relationship while studying in New York earlier.
The film also stars Adinia Wirasti, Titi Kamal, Christian Sugiono and Ario Bayu.
