BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Officers and personnel under the Malaysian Border Control Agency (Aksem) will be rotated every six and three months, respectively, as a move to combat incidences of smuggling and human trafficking at the country's borders.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Aksem officers will be replaced by General Operations Force (PGA) personnel serving at different states.
"We will give three months for the personnel and six months for officers for them to serve at a particular location. Not more than that. And we will replace them with a different team, in this case the PGA.
"This is also the same with those under other enforcement department and agencies such as the Immigration Department and Customs.
"We understand that they will face problems with their families, but such issues can usually be resolved if it is done on a rotational basis. We cannot compromise on issues concerning smuggling and human trafficking," he said.
Zahid said this after launching the change of name of Aksem to the Malaysian Border Control Agency from the Malaysian Border Security Agency at the Aksem Bukit Kayu Hitam complex here today.
Aksem is a rebranding and upgrading of the Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP) in a bid to strengthen and improve border security.
Zahid, who is also Home Minister, announced the appointment of Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Datuk Mohamad Ismail as the director-general of Aksem.
