KUALA LUMPUR: In keeping up with the rise in popularity of cycling with the Malaysian public, KTM Berhad today launched a new, first-of-its-kind programme called “Ride N’ Ride”, allowing commuters to bring their bicycles inside Komuter trains.
In her speech at the launch, KTMB’s General Manager, Azshidah Shah Shahari said that many Malaysians had opted for a healthy and physically active lifestyle by picking up cycling.
“KTMB, through the KTM Komuter service has taken the initiative starting 1st of June this year to allow passengers to bring their bicycles inside the coach, for fast, comfortable and safe travel,” she said.
Azshidah said KTM hoped to bring cycling enthusiasts together and encourage an overall healthy community.
She added that the move also was aimed at supporting bicycle clubs in Malaysia to continue to be active and promote an active lifestyle among Malaysians.
Cyclists however should note that for the time being, bicycles are only allowed in coaches A and F, which are the first and last coaches respectively for ease of movement, she said.
Foldable bicycles are allowed at all time, while regular bikes are only allowed during the hours of 9.30 am-4.00pm and 8.00pm to 12.30am during the weekday, 8.30am -11.00am and 8.00pm to 12.30am on weekends and public holidays.
Prior to this, only foldable bicycles were allowed in the train.
