PUTRAJAYA: The police will investigate Sarawak Report under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) if it is found to have published classified contents of the Auditor-General’s report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said he will meet with Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang to verify the authenticity of the documents, which have yet to be de-classified.
“We’re not sure whether the documents published by Sarawak Report are genuine or not. We’re uncertain where they got the documents from, or whether someone had sent them the documents.
“They could also have amended the documents before publishing them. If the documents are genuine, we will investigate (Sarawak Report) under the OSA,” he told reporters after attending Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s Hari Raya open house event today.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak on Friday had called for a police investigation to determine how Sarawak Report reportedly obtained some contents of the Auditor-General’s report on 1MDB.
It was reported that the London-based blog had published portions of the Auditor-General’s report on the sovereign wealth fund, which were classified under the OSA.
The National Audit Department began its audit on 1MDB following a cabinet directive in March last year, with the outcome handed over to the Public Accounts Committee to facilitate the latter's probe on the strategic development company.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had in March last year ordered an investigation into 1MDB's alleged financial mismanagement.
