CYBERJAYA: “I think of my husband every day, but I need to move on and be strong for my son,” said Sharifah Asma’a Syed Alwi Al Junied, the wife of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 first officer, Ahmad Hakimi Hanapi.
Hakimi was one of the 298 people on board the Boeing 777 aircraft, which was shot down en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam on July 17, 2014.
Speaking to Bernama recently, she said it had been two years since the incident and realised the need to reclaim her life for her own future and that of her son, Abderrahman, who will turn 3 this October.
“I am pretty much settled now. I have a full-time job with the Human Resource Department of a United Nations office.
“I am also busy with my Boost Juice franchise business, both in Cyberjaya.
“There’s so much to do, like preparing invoices for my business.
“I do think about my husband, but I have to move on with my life. Let bygones be bygones.
“Whatever makes me down, I put it away. I cannot afford to be down for the sake of my son, in-laws and everyone.
“I want to be strong so that people can see I have moved on,” said the 31-year-old.
Looking at Abderrahman, who was watching cartoons on an iPad, Sharifah Asma’a said: “He is my life and he keeps me pretty busy as he is growing up fast, and learning and exploring new things.”
She said following her husband’s absence, her son became attached to her father-in-law, Dr Hanapi Mohd Noor, 68, who died of gallbladder cancer last Thursday.
“It saddens me that my father-in-law is also gone now because he was very attached to my son,” she added. Bernama
