'Smart Postman' app to be launched next month

KUALA LUMPUR: The ‘Smart Postman’ application which will be launched next month, will be utilised by postman nationwide to collect data, including on infrastructure condition of areas that they travel as an information for related bodies.

Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the data collected would then be used to facilitate initiatives to improve the areas concerned.

“For instance, if the area has unpaved roads, the postman will record the problem in the application.

“Data will be gathered and can also be turned into a census,” he told reporters when met at the Pos Malaysia open house, here, today.

Jailani said pilot tests had been conducted in two areas, namely Kota Belud, Sabah and Lundu, Sarawak to gauge the effectiveness of wireless telecommunication signal in rural areas for the requirement of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“From the data collection, the MCMC will get information on which area has a weak signal, and thus find a way to enhance it,” he said.

In another development, he said Pos Malaysia would open seven counters for postage service in several hotels in Madinah and Mecca, among others, in Al Wafideen, Rawdhat Al Shouroq, Manar Al Shouroq and Qasr Al Janadiriyah.

“The counter will start its operation from August 3 until Oct 21 and will be closed for five days for Wukuf day from Sept 11 until 15,” he added.
