PUTRAJAYA : Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will undertake a working visit to Jakarta from August 1 to 3.
The visit is in conjunction with the 11th Annual Consultation between the Malaysian Prime Minister and Indonesian President, and the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum (12th WIEF).
Najib will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, cabinet ministers and government officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
The Annual Consultation will be held on Aug 1 whilst the 12th WIEF will take place from Aug 2 to 4.
In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said the 11th Annual Consultation will mark the first meeting between Najib and Indonesian President Joko Widodo under the annual consultation framework.
Both leaders will discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest and explore new areas of cooperation.
They will also witness the signing of the bilateral agreement between Bank Negara Malaysia and Otoritas Jasa Keuwangan Indonesia under the Asean Banking Integration Framework, as well as the agreement between the Indonesian government and the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) on the Secretariat of CPOPC.
The 11th Annual Consultation reflects the strong commitment of both countries to further deepen the long-standing and close bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Indonesia is Malaysia’s 7th largest trading partner and the 3rd largest among Asean countries.
Total bilateral trade between the two countries stood at RM60.16 billion (USD15.25 billion) last year.
Bilateral trade in 2014 was recorded at RM59.5 billion (USD18.3 billion).
Following the 11th Annual Consultation, Prime Minister will participate at the 12th WIEF, with the theme – “Decentralizing Growth, Empowering Business”.
The forum acknowledges the role of small and medium businesses in driving economic growth in national economies around the world, away from the previous dominance of big multinationals, which represent only a small portion of the business community of any particular country.
The forum will also provide a platform for participants to pool their ideas, especially on ways to implement the innovative partnerships and provide opportunities for future cooperation in various sectors.
The forum will be attended by leaders from several countries, including Tajikistan, Guinea and Sri Lanka, and is expected to be the biggest forum with more than 2,500 participants.
Najib, who is also WIEF patron, will deliver a special address during the opening session on Aug 2.
He is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts during the forum to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Najib is also scheduled to attend several events at the margins of the forum such as the soft launching of the Global Entrepreneurship Community (GECommunity) by Finance Ministry.
He will also witness the exchange of memorandum of understanding and agreements between Malaysian and international companies.
