Bersih 5 date to be announced soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) announced that it would hold a fifth rally, Bersih 5, focusing on action against 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

However, its chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah said the date and venue for the rally has yet to be set.

"Bersih 2.0 together with other non-governmental organisations and concerned citizens, have initiated various weekly actions to protest against the 1MDB scandal.

"These include a planned protest by youths on Aug 27, the submission of memoranda to various government institutions, and lodging of police reports," she said.

She said the fifth rally was to pressure for greater accountability and actions against 1MDB.

"The date and details of the Bersih 5 rally will be announced in due course as we are still in the midst of discussions.

"At present, we strongly feel that focus should be on building a united Malaysia by gathering more diverse groups and stakeholders for this rally," she said.

She said that Bersih 2.0 hopes to see a bigger attendance than those gathered during Bersih 4.
