(Olympics) Malaysian divers let bronze slip away

RIO DE JANEIRO: An Olympic bronze medal was beckoning but a poor fourth dive saw Cheong Jun Hoong-Nur Dhabitah Sabri eventually finishing fifth in the women's 3m springboard synchronised on Sunday.

The Malaysians were third after the first three dives but a poor entry by Jun Hoong in the fourth saw them earning only 60.30 points to slip to fourth.

Jun Hoong-Nur Dhabitah failed to score high in their final dive - managing only 64.80 - as Australia's Maddison Keeney-Anabelle Smith came from behind to take the bronze with 299.19 points.

The Malaysians scored a total of 293.40 points for fifth with Canada fourth (298.32).

Gold was won by China's Shi Tingmao-Wu Minxia (345.60) and silver went to Italy's Tania Cagnotto-Francesca Dallape (313.83).
