Diver Bertrand vows to bounce back after eye-opening Olympic debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises vowed to come back stronger after a disappointing debut at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

The 19-year-old finished 25th out of 26 divers in the men's 10m platform preliminary round, scoring 313.70 points.

"I am disappointed in myself. I know what I am capable of, but I just couldn't deliver this time," said the Sarawak-born.

"The Olympics are on a different level. The environment is both intense and supportive, but unfortunately, I couldn't perform to my best."

Bertrand's score in Paris was well below his personal best of 442.35 points, which he achieved at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, last year, securing his Olympic spot.

The Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medallist said his parents travelled to Paris to watch him compete.

"I wanted to give them a good show, but I didn't perform well. Maybe the pressure got to me," he said.

"I will come back stronger in upcoming competitions and will be better prepared for the 2028 Los Angeles Games."
