KUALA LUMPUR: A women's health specialist was charged at the Sessions Court here today with causing the death of the deputy prime minister's son-in-law on June 1.
Ting Teck Chin, clad in black coat and white undershirt, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence involving Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son-in-law, Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi.
Ting, who is a gynaecologist, was accused of causing Syed Alman's death at a dental clinic at Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Baru here, between 6pm and 9.05pm on June 1.
Ting, 36, may be jailed up to 10 years, fined, or sentenced to both penalties if convicted under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code.
Judge Zainal L. Saleh allowed RM20,000 bail with one surety and set Oct 17 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Abazafree Mohd Abas prosecuted while lawyer Datuk K. Kumaraendran appeared for Ting.
