SIPITANG: Two workers were killed in an ammonia leak mishap at a fertiliser plant operated by Petronas here this morning.
Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG), in a statement, said five contractors were affected in the 9.30am incident at the Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd plant.
"Our Emergency Response Team was immediately mobilised and the situation has been contained,"
"The company however regrets to inform that two fatalities have been reported. The other three affected personnel have received appropriate medical treatment." said the statement.
PCG said the incident posed no immediate threat to the surrounding communities or environment, adding that an investigation was being carried out to determine the cause of the leak.
