KUALA LUMPUR: Cyberview Sdn Bhd is collaborating with Atilze Digital Sdn Bhd to build, operate and commercialise a city-wide long range (LoRa) network in Cyberjaya.
The collaboration strategically positions Cyberjaya as the first smart city in Southeast Asia connected to such a network.
LoRa is a ready and available low power, long range, wide area network technology that is more advanced and designed to meet the demand of today's Internet of Things (IoT) applications and services.
Under the agreement, Atilze will supply the LoRa gateways and antenna systems, nodes and modules and access to the IoT data cloud platform for the transmission of the data.
Upon the completion of the installation, Atilze will continue to manage, operate and provide maintenance, service and support services for its LoRa network in Cyberjaya.
"Using LoRa technology, we will enable a cost effective means of implementing viable and relevant IoT applications for Cyberjaya to enhance urban management," Atilze chief executive officer Gerard Lim said in his speech at the signing of the Memorandum of Collaboration here, today.
Lim said the LoRa technology has been proven to cost 10 times cheaper than the 4G LTE network due to its minimal infrastructure requirements, fast deployment with minimal configuration and lower cost of gateway and modules.
Cyberview managing director Datuk Faris Yahaya said with this collaboration, Cyberview and Atilze will be working together to elevate the city towards being a 'Living Lab' to nurture and grow IoT talents and businesses.
"We invite all ecosystem partners who have ready IoT applications, to work with us and integrate their ready IoT applications to be LoRa enabled, and implemented on Cyberjaya's LoRa network," said Faris.
