Firemen save cat with birth difficulties

NILAI: A fireman's duty is more than just saving human lives.

Nilai Fire and Rescue Department proved that last night when they took that extra mile to help anyone in need, and this included rescuing a cat.

In the 11.30pm incident last night, several personnel from the department rolled up their sleeves to rescue the cat, which was having some birth-related complications.

The cat's owner, a 48-year-old man, took the feline to the fire station for help after failing to find veterinary clinics that were still open in the late hour.

Station operating officer Mohd Syazwan Saidy said the cat was in a poor state when it was brought to the station.

"The foetus was believed to have perished for several hours but remained stuck in the tract during the birth process," he said.

"The Emergency Response Medical Services (ERMS) team was assigned to assist and took about 15 minutes to remove the foetus," he said.

Mohd Syazwan said the cat appeared weak but was in stable condition after undergoing the procedure.
