Businessman remanded 5 days over timber-related graft probe

PUTRAJAYA: A businessman was remanded for five days beginning today to facilitate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation into a graft case involving timber.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasmin Wan Ab Rahman granted the order against the 64-year-old man, who has a 'Datuk' title, today.

The businessman was alleged to have accepted bribe worth RM500,000 from a contractor in deals related to timber in the east coast.

An MACC officer said the man was arrested at his home in Bukit Jalil at 4.40pm yesterday.

The case is being investigated under section 16 (a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
