PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) at the Putrajaya Sentral station here, today.
In his speech Najib said the MRT SSP Line will cut traveling time to Kuala Lumpur to 30 minutes.
He said the efforts taken by the government through this project will contribute towards the development of KL as a world-class city.
“The lack of focus in the past on development of public transport has resulted in deteriorating traffic conditions and congestion in the city.
“Reliability and customer satisfaction must be at the highest level with regards to public transport.
“We cannot afford to become less competitive … rest assured I will continue to give my full attention to developing a modern, efficient, reliable and safe public transport system for the rakyat and Klang Valley as well as outside,” said the prime minister.
Also present at event were Chief Secretary to the Government cum MRT Corp chairman Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Cabinet ministers, as well as MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
The 52.2km MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) will have 37 stations. It will run from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya through Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Titiwangsa, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Bandar Malaysia, Sungai Besi, Serdang, UPM and Cyberjaya.
It includes a 13.5km underground track to support 11 stations.
The SSP Line will also have 9,200 park-and-ride bays at 15 stations. Once operational, it is expected to have a daily ridership of 529,000 passengers.
Phase One of the SSP Line - between the Sungai Buloh and Kampung Batu stations - is expected to be operational by July 2021, while the entire line is expected to be ready by July 2022.
The SSP Line will have 12 interchanges along its route with existing services like the Light Rapid Transit, KL Monorail and Express Rail Link.
There will also be an interchange station at Bandar Malaysia South for the High-Speed Rail (HSR) in future.
