SHAH ALAM: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has improved its standard operating procedures for passenger management, particularly during peak hours, to ensure smooth and safe passenger flow at stations.
This comes after a viral video circulated on social media, highlighting congestion at the Pasar Seni MRT station platform.
"Prasarana confirms a viral video on social media regarding the congestion issue at the Pasar Seni MRT station platform on Nov 26.
"The incident occurred around 6.45pm, due to a delay in the scheduled arrival of one of the trains.
"This disruption affected passenger movement and caused congestion on the Pasar Seni MRT station platform," Prasarana said in a statement today.
As part of its improvements, Prasarana has repositioned auxiliary police officers in areas with higher safety risks, such as platforms and escalators, to ensure more effective security control.
Prasarana said more frequent checks were being conducted to assess passenger density at the station, especially on the platform during peak hours.
It said this allows the auxiliary police team to respond more quickly and deploy officers to critical areas.
"By March 2025, the MRT Kajang Line service will be enhanced with an increase in trains from 39 to 42.
"This increase aims to boost train capacity and reduce congestion at stations along the Kajang Line," it said.
Prasarana said during peak hours, the current train frequency of every 4 minutes will be reduced to 3.7 minutes, helping to ease waiting time.
Prasarana also apologised for the inconvenience and assured that continuous improvements would be made to ensure that Rapid KL services remain safe, comfortable, and efficient.
