KOTA TINGGI: National oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) will not cut the budget and manpower in its Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) department despite the lower oil price environment.
Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project HSSE head Saifuddin Shah Sowkkatali said the company remained committed to the safety aspects of its projects.
“Petronas has always made safety our top priority and this remains our policy. There will be no cuts in manpower or budget. In fact, we may even increase manpower if the need arises, especially with big-scale projects,” he said during a visit to the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), here, yesterday.
The complex, which is 30 per cent completed, houses about 25,000 workers and is equipped with facilities such as a cinema, sports fields, an Internet cafe and a gym.
To be completed by the first quarter of 2019, the RM60 billion PIC would comprise Rapid, Pengerang Co-generation Plant, Regasification Terminal 2, Air Separation Unit Raw Water Supply, Pengerang Deepwater Terminal 2 and centralised and shared utilities and facilities.
