KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will support government efforts in the 2025 Budget that benefit the people, but only if the budget is refined with clearer policies, said opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Hamzah (PN-Larut) said this is to avoid confusion among the public.
He added that not only the public but also stakeholders such as industry players and investors, have high hopes for the budget
"Economic stability and clear policies will instill confidence in them.
"Provide some incentives, offer grants, ensure adequate access to financing, and develop infrastructure alongside a conducive business ecosystem.
"On our side (the opposition), we will support efforts for a better future for the country, as this will instill confidence in foreign investors and benefit the nation's economy," Anwar said during the debate on the 2025 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hamzah also said it was important for the government to have clear mechanisms when making certain announcements related to the public for further comprehension.
"For instance, it was announced that the sales and service tax (SST) would be expanded, but only the details for salmon and avocado were provided.
"What is the actual estimated revenue that the government will collect? What percentage will be imposed on salmon and avocado? Is there already a list of items?" he asked.
He added that without clear details, uncertainty in the economy would arise, which would affect the people and the country.
"In addition to the expanded SST, the public is questioning why they are being burdened with so many taxes.
"Furthermore, e-invoices are also being introduced, with full implementation starting in July next year. All of this is being placed on the shoulders of the people.
"Isn't this a burden? Are these various taxes leading towards Goods and Services Tax 2.0?' he said."
