NILAI: In a call for bureaucratic efficiency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has suggested that outstanding matters of estate inheritance among the Muslim community should be resolved in no more than seven working days.
He said seven days was appropriate for cases for which there are complete document records, and in which there are no disputes between heirs over large amounts of property.
"The old process of property management is outdated and no longer relevant,” he said in a speech delivered by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom during the opening ceremony of the National Seminar on Transformation of Estate Management at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) here today.
The event also saw the launch of E-Faraid, designed to help ease the process of resolving estate inheritance matters in the Muslim community.
Zahid pointed out that the Immigration Department used to take up to several months for passport renewal, but the process has been streamlined and shortened to less than a day - the result of innovation, creativity and transformation by the department.
He added that agencies related to the management of estates for Muslims, including the Syariah court, could emulate the success of the Immigration Department to expedite the process of estate inheritance management.
