PETALING JAYA: Two more highways, the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP) and Senai–Desaru Expressway (SDE) in Johor will fully implement the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system from noon on November 9.
These include the LDP toll plazas of Penchala, Petaling Jaya Selatan, Puchong Barat and Puchong Selatan. For the SDE, the Senai, Ulu Tiram, Cahaya Baru and Penawar toll plazas are included.
Malaysia Highway Concessionaires Association vice-president Sazally Saidi said the ETC implementation requires users to pay toll by using their Touch 'n Go card or the SmartTAG.
"Come November 9, a total of 28 highways will be upgraded with the implementation of ETC.
"By 2017, all 31 highways will be upgraded to the ETC system which will involve 2,288 toll lanes at 177 toll plazas nationwide.
"Based on a study we conducted, until August 2016, it was found that 93 per cent of 149 million road users have been using the Touch 'n Go and SmarTAG at toll plazas," he said at a media briefing here today.
Sazally said the initiative at both highways would ensure a more improved, comfortable journey and help users enjoy a smooth ride.
He said that to ensure smooth operation at these toll plazas, the concessionaires involved would provide eight "Lorong Tambah Nilai" for a start, and will be operating 24 hours everyday.
He added that they have been disseminating the information to the public through social media, flyers, billboards, buntings, among others since September.
In conjunction with the implementation of the ETC, Sazally said 68,000 Touch 'n Go cards will be given out free with a minimum reload payment of RM5 at the LDP while 8,000 units to be distributed at the SDE with a minimum pay of RM10.
The SmarTAG devices will be sold at a promotional price of RM104.95 including GST at the LDP and RM99 at the SDE.
All Class 1 vehicles will also enjoy a 10 per cent rebate for two months from Nov 9 to Dec 31 this year at both highways.
