GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has proposed state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow to take over as the next chief minister.
This scenario, Lim said, would take place if he is convicted of his two ongoing corruption charges.
“This is to prove that DAP is not just one individual but a collective leadership that will continue the struggle whatever happens to me.
“I ask the convention, our members and leaders to endorse my proposal that Penang DAP chairman Chow takes over from me as Chief Minister should BN succeed in their attacks against me.
“We shall defend DAP and Penang from BN together as one team, one spirit and one party,” he told delegates at the state DAP annual convention today.
Lim had pleaded not guilty to two counts of corruption in relation to conversion of land from an agricultural zone to residential zone, and the purchase of a plot of land and his multi-million ringgit Penang bungalow at below market value.
Lim claimed he was a victim of "trumped up charges."
