KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia can expect the return of at least one of two Jemaah Islamiah militants held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, as an outcome of a recent deal struck between the country and United States of America, reported the New York Times.
Should the deal go through, one of the duo, Mohd Farik Amin and Mohamad Bashir Lap, would spend their remaining incarceration period in Malaysia instead of their current detention centre.
The allegations leveled against Mohd Farik’s include his collusion with Riduan Isamuddin, more famously known as Hambali and ensured the bomb expert's successful evasion from authorities following the Bali bombings in 2002.
Mohd Farik was also accused of facilitating the fund transfer to fuel the subsequent bombing of the Jakarta Marriot Hotel in 2003, also allegedly masterminded by Hambali.
Having spent their years at the US detention camp since 2006, Mohd Farik might be seeing the end of his detention in Malaysia, due to his admission to the terrorism charges and testimonial he provided against both Hambali and fellow militant Mohamad Bashir to the American military commission.
