KUALA LUMPUR: The mischievous, 3D-animated twin brothers Upin and Ipin are going strong at the box office, taking in RM3 million ticket sales in four days on their newest cinematic adventure.
The twins' first live-action animated film Upin & Ipin: Jeng Jeng Jeng! which sees the cheeky duo help save a tranquil, countryside orphanage from development, collected close to RM500,000 on its first day of screening.
Upin & Ipin: Jeng Jeng Jeng! which is showing in 122 cinemas nationwide, is distributed by Primeworks Distribution and produced by Les’ Copaque Production in partnership with KRU Studios.
Based on the hugely popular Upin & Ipin TV series, it sees the five-year-old boys interact with human actors, and tells the story of their diehard fan, a young orphan named Aqish (Puteri Balqis Azizi), who imagines them being real.
Aqish discovers that the owner of the land on which her orphanage is built has returned to claim it back, and she enlists the help of Upin and Ipin to save the day.
Directed by Ainon Ariff and Erma Fatima, Upin & Ipin: Jeng Jeng Jeng! also stars Awie, Gambit Saifullah, Remy Ishak and Sara Ali, with Asyiela Putri providing the voices of the animated twins.
The film represents another milestone for the brand after Upin & Ipin’s first feature film, Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula (2011) became Malaysia’s first computer-animated film.
