KLANG: A raid by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism in Pandamaran yesterday turned up 14kg of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), worth RM2 million.
The haul is believed to be the biggest LPG seizure this year.
The ministry’s enforcement deputy directorDatuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman said the raid took place at an illegal store in Jalan Papan, Kawasan 12, Pandamaran.
Iskandar said syndicate, with seven members, had been in operation for a year.
The syndicate members, he said, had used a 'decanting' method to fill in tanks and 50kg gas cylinders to be sold for industrial use by companies.
In the raid, the authorities seized 96 50kg gas cyclinders and 923 of 14kg gas cylinders. They also confiscated empty gas cyclinders (1742 14kg gas cylinders and 15 50kg gas cylinders).
"These also include two bullet tanks, three bullet tankers, a trailer, two lorries and tools used for decanting,” he said.
He said police are tracking down the store owner, and the authorities have frozen several bank accounts to facilitate the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of Control of Supplies Act 1961, together with Regulations 3(1) of Control Suppliers Regulation 1974 and Section 20(1) of Control of Supplies Act 1961.
