Anuar Zain does more than just entertain

KUALA LUMPUR: When popular male singer Anuar Zain was informed that his songs have become sources of inspiration for those going through tough times, he could not be any happier.

"For me, I believe my responsibility goes beyond just singing to my audience," he said when met at a press conference held at Le Meridien Hotel here today.

"Some of the songs may have hit a chord in my listeners' heart especially those who go through challenges, be it personal or professional issues.

"But I feel good to be able to assist in any way I can," he added.

"My sister (singer Ziana Zain) once told me about a woman who was checked into a mental hospital. She said the patient became better after receiving treatment and listening to one of my older songs on repeat," he added.

Anuar, 46, who has just released his latest self-titled album last September, also spoke of a fan who shared with him how his hit song Bila Resah helped him overcome depression when he was hit during the 1998's economic recession.

"He told me that each time he was depressed, he listened to the upbeat tune and he became all cheery," said Anuar who is glad that many of his songs are used for "healing".

Many of his numbers are also played at wedding receptions.

"Music is definitely one way of putting people together," he said.

Meanwhile, Anuar is set to hold a special concert in January.

A collaboration with Yonder Music, the concert is called Yonder Music Live Series By The Lake: Anuar Zain & You on Jan 21, 2017 at Panggung Anniversary, Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur.
