“I am shocked by my results, as I feared I would do badly.

“I am happy with my results and aim to do better for my Sijil Perlajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in two years’ time,” she said when met at SMK(P) St George in Lebuh Macalister here today.

Tamilchelvy was seen jumping happily and hugging her friend D. Aruna, who also scored well in the examinations.

There was a general air of jubilant celebration at the high-performing school, as students, together with their parents, arrived to collect the PT3 assessment examination results.

A total of 432,514 candidates across the country, including some 22,000 in Penang, sat for the examination from Oct 10 to 13.

Introduced in 2011, the PT3 written test is a replacement of the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) at the lower secondary level, and covers 12 subjects, including Maths, Science, Integrated Living Skills, Islamic Studies, and languages comprising Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Tamil, Kadazandusun, Iban and Punjabi.

This is the third year of the PT3 exams, which was instituted by then-Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
