PUTRAJAYA: A secretary-general of a federal ministry and his two sons were remanded for seven days today to assist in investigations into a power abuse and corruption case.
The remand orders on the trio, effective today until Jan 11, were issued by magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman.
The trio, clad in orange jail attire, arrived at the Putrajaya Magistrate Court at 9.45am.
They are being investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act for using their position to receive gratification.
The senior government official with a 'Datuk' title was detained at his residence in USJ, Subang Jaya, yesterday on suspicion of abusing his post to accept bribes.
His two sons, aged 29 and 34, were arrested at the MACC headquarters yesterday after giving their statements.
The duo, who are managers of two different companies, are being investigated as accessories to graft.
The MACC also seized and impounded cash and gold bars worth about RM3 million.
