KUALA TERENGGANU: When Muhammad Ramadhan Alias, 20, was diagnosed with leukaemia seven months ago, he felt hopeless and devastated, as if the sky had fallen on him.
He was diagnosed with stage three leukaemia and was told by doctors that he had four months left to live.
His mother was shocked and deeply saddened because Ramadhan is her youngest child.
"At that time, I felt very weak and the doctors said that nothing can be done to cure my illness.
"I was given four months to live and needed to undergo chemotherapy to stay healthy," he said when met at the Sultan Mahmud Airport, yesterday.
Ramadhan and his mother, Saidah Yaacob, 58, were sponsored by the Prime Minister under 1MDB, the state Government and travel agent, Rayhars Travel and Tours, to perform the umrah in Mecca.
Both mother and child are scheduled to depart from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Medina at 1pm tomorrow and will return to Malaysia on January 29.
Ramadhan said he was very grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman for making his dream became true.
He said, he never thought that Razif would consider his request to perform the umrah together with his mother.
"It’s like a dream come true and it never crossed in my mind to set my foot in Mecca. But Allah has answered my prayer and I promise to devote all of myself to Allah when I arrive there.
"I will also pray to Allah asking Him to cure my illness and may Allah have a mercy on me. I feel enthusiastic and energetic to go.
Razif was also present at the Sultan Mahmud Airport to give him moral support and some advice.
