KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah is not keen on working with other local-based opposition parties due some of the leaders' bad reputation of "jumping parties".
Its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said Sabah has a rich history of politicians jumping from one political party to another.
“It doesn’t matter if the party (Warisan) loses out in the coming election as integrity is more important.
“Based on experience, the (same) people and parties which have been in power for 20 years and more are unlikely or difficult to change,” he said after a walkabout at the Lido market this morning.
Shafie, who was the former Umno vice president, said other opposition had offered the party to join their alliance but he was skeptical about their planning.
“However, the party is open to discussion but for now will work on our side to reach out more people.
“It is more important for Warisan to get to know others’ policy or else there will be disagreement (within the alliance if opposition wins any seats after election),” he added.
Shafie said based on his 25 years of political experience in contesting for elections, he would never worry about multi-cornered fights.
He added the main factor was for the people to know which leaders to choose.
“The concern should always be on toppling the government and not the seat,” he said, adding the party would support other oppositions who are also heading towards the same direction as Warisan’s in fighting the ruling government but not those who only aimed for seats.
