HUTAN MELINTANG: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took some time off to visit his godmother for Chinese New Year at Taman Desa Bersatu, here today.
Cheah Seoh Liang, 76, said Zahid never failed to visit her family every year during CNY.
"I feel happy every time he introduces me as his godmother to his friends," said the housewife, who has known Zahid for more than 30 years through her son Beh Song Wan, 55.
"He used to come over to my house and had even stayed with us when we lived in Kampung Sungai Haji Mamat," she said when met at her house.
Cheah said Zahid was still the same humble person she knew who always showed concern for others.
Meanwhile, Beh said since he brought his mother to live with his family at Taman Desa Bersatu, Zahid continued visiting them during CNY despite his busy schedule.
"This was the fourth year he spent time to celebrate CNY with us.
"One of the sweetest memory I had with him was when I informed him of a temple in need of repair five years ago.
"He immediately approved an allocation for the temple in Bagan Sungai Buloh," he said.
Beh's wife Tiang Mee Ping, 49, their two daughters Beh Jia Tzi, 11 and Beh Jia Jun, 8 also joined relatives, friends and about 500 guests to welcome Zahid at the family home.
