Johor Crown Prince calls for release of man detained for insulting him in video

JOHOR BARU: The Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has called for the release of a man detained for uploading a viral video in which he utters vulgar and threatening words against the Crown Prince.

Posting in the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page, Tunku Ismail said he believes that the man, known as ‘Mat Tere,’ is innocent and has been victimised by certain individuals for their own political agenda.

In the posting, Tunku Ismail also congratulated the Kelantan state government for taking care of the people, and for being aware of a certain individual whose intentions are to divide the public.

‘Mat Tere’, a 29-year-old unemployed man believed to be mentally unwell, was arrested in front of a hotel at Jalan Pendek in Kota Baru, Kelantan, at 3.50pm last Wednesday.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged over the video, which had gone viral on social media.

The remand for ‘Mat Tere’ was supposed to be extended, before he is scheduled to be sent back to Kelantan.
