Fake MCs, real doctors: MACC bust secretive, Penang-based operation [VIDEO]

GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) scored a major success when they uncovered a scam involving doctors who issued fake medical certificates for drivers of public vehicles.

Penang MACC director Datuk Abdul Aziz Aban said the commission detained 10 people, including seven doctors from seven clinics on the island and mainland, during a massive clampdown on Valentine's Day.

Also detained were a female assistant of one of the clinics and two runners.

"The 10 arrested will be produced for remand today.

"There may be more arrests soon as investigations progress," he told a press conference here this morning.

Abdul Aziz said based on investigation, some of the doctors had been in operation for between four and 10 years.

"Their operations are very secretive.

"Only those in the business will know the services provided by the seven doctor, including one from a government hospital," he added.

Seized from the raids yesterday were fake rubber stamps, 1,600 JPJ L8 forms and 700 forms which had been stamped and signed by doctors of non-existent clinics.

"Based on investigations, the doctors charged between RM3 and RM30 for each approved application.

"This is a very serious offence as it involved the safety of all passengers," he added.
