Two deputy chef de mission appointed for 2017 SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) yesterday announced the appointment of two deputies chef de mission to the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur to be held from Aug 19 to 31.

The two were National Sports Council (NSC) acting director, Jefri Ngadirin and former national cycling athlete, M.Kumaresan.

OCM deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria commended them as individuals with utmost commitment who could cooperate well with the Chef de Mission, Datuk Marina Chin.

"We hope these two will help Marina in preparing the Malaysian athletes to be in top-notch condition for the SEA Games," he said in a media conference after attending OCM's Executive Council Meeting here.

According to Mohamad Norza, the appointment was carried out to ensure the smooth preparation of the Malaysian contingent for the SEA games, while fulfilling the dream for Malaysia to become the overall champion for the biennial event.

"The task undertaken by Datuk Marina is a heavy responsibility. Thus, the appointment of the two deputies chef de mission is timely, especially in ensuring that the preparation which has certain phases goes well," he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, Mohamad Norza said the SEA Games Exco Meeting would be held at the end of March to notify in detail the current preparations for the event, adding that representatives from 11 countries will attend the meeting to inform them on matters such as preparation, facilities for athletes and the venue. - BERNAMA
