Two female assassins linked to Kim Jong-nam murder found dead, say reports

KUALA LUMPUR: In the latest twist to Kim Jong-nam’s alleged assassination, foreign media reports are now claiming that the two female assassins who allegedly murdered Kim Jong-nam at KLIA2 are probably dead.

ABC News’ Seoul bureau chief Joohee Cho tweeted this afternoon that Malaysian police have reportedly found the bodies of the two North Korean women, who are believed to have poisoned the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday.

“Malay police reportedly found bodies of the two women suspected of killing Kim Jong Nam,” she tweeted three hours ago.

A similar tweet by Bloomberg business journalist Sam Kim read “It gets crazier: 2 women suspected of killing Kim Jong Nam may have died, Yonhap reports, citing a Japanese official”.

However, there is no confirmation from police on this matter as yet.

A vernacular daily, meanwhile, reported that one of the female suspects is believed to be a Vietnamese, who was arrested at the airport this morning.

Reports have suggested that two female assassins were responsible for killing Jong-nam on Monday, just before he was due to board a flight to Macau.

Jong-nam had said someone had wiped his face with a liquid substance, which left him dizzy. He had sought help from airport staff, who then summoned an ambulance for him.

However, he died on his way to the Putrajaya Hospital. His body has since been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The post-mortem is expected to be completed today.

South Korean media reported that Jong-nam’s family will most likely receive custody of his body after the autopsy is carried out, and not North Korea.
