Four who died after concert and three others had consumed Ecstasy

PETALING JAYA: The four people who died at the PinkFish Countdown 2024 concert in Sunway Lagoon yesterday, as well as three more who were hospitalised, were all believed to have taken the party drug "Ecstasy".

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the three other people involved in the case all displayed similar symptoms as those who had died.

He said police received six police reports from University Malaya Medical Centre and another from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital about receiving seven patients.

He said checks showed all seven of them had attended the same concert but with separate groups, some with friends while others with their family members.

"In the three new cases discovered, two are currently being treated in the intensive care unit, while the third individual has been discharged from hospital.

Police have opened four investigation papers and so far recorded six individuals' statements.

"We will be calling more individuals to have their statements recorded, including the concert organiser and friends of all seven individuals" he said.

Hussein said preliminary investigations revealed that all those who fell ill had consumed Ecstacy pills and attended the same concert.

"Police are still waiting for the toxicology reports to confirm this and to ascertain the first four's cause of death," he said.

He urged anyone with information about the case to contact Subang Jaya police at 03-78627222 or any of the nearest police stations.

Earlier it was reported that four concert goers had allegedly died of possible drug overdose.
