KOTA BARU: For raping his two underaged nieces, who were 15 and 16 years old in 2015, a man was sentenced to 48 years’ jail and 50 strokes of the rotan by the Kota Baru sessions court yesterday.
The 44-year-old accused had changed his plea to ‘guilty’ to the five charges read out to him by the court interpreter before Judge Nazri Ismail.
On Dec 30, 2015, the former bulldozer driver had pleaded not guilty when charged under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code.
According to the first and second charges, he was accused of raping his 16-year-old niece at a house in Pasir Puteh, between 7am and 8am in Aug and Nov of 2015.
For the third, fourth and fifth charges, he was accused of raping another niece, aged 15, at the same place, between 7am and 8am, in Aug, Sept and Oct of 2015.
According to the facts of the case, the accused entered the first victim's room (16-year-old) when no one was at home and forced her to have sex in Aug and Nov of 2015.
The same incident befell the victim's sister (aged 15) in Aug, Sept and Oct of 2015.
Both victims were threatened to keep silent about the incidents, and were forced to have sex. The man, who also took nude pictures of the girls, said he would circulate the images publicly were they to reveal the matter to anyone.
For the first and the third charge, Nazri was sentenced to 12 years' jail with 20 strokes of the rotan. As for the second, fourth and fifth, he has to serve 12 years each, with 10 strokes of the rotan.
The judge ordered the jail sentences to run consecutively from the date of his arrest on Dec 14, 2015.
