KUALA LUMPUR: A grainy photo is now making its rounds in WhatsApp groups and other social media, depicting what appears to be a fleet of BMWs in a parking lot with the word 'POLIS' emblazoned on the hoods, and complete with light bars.
Has BMW Group Malaysia scored a major coup and secured the supply of BMW cars to the Royal Malaysian Police? It surely looks so from this photo.
But as thrilling as this promises to be to our men in blue, this is not really the case.
BMW Group Malaysia head of corporate communications Sashi Ambi, during a phone interview, said the cars were being prepped for the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).
"The cars are part of the 200 vehicles that we are sending for Le Tour De Langkawi. After the event, the fleet will be used for the local events around Malaysia," he said.
BMW Group Malaysia has been appointed as the official automotive partner for this year’s event.
This was announced by LTdL chief executive officer Emir Abdul Jalal last week at a launch event. Emir added that he was pleased to have BMW Group Malaysia as the Official Automotive Partner for the competition in 2017.
Last week, Sashi said Le Tour de Langkawi 2017 would be their first presence in the sport of cycling at the highest level in the region, and BMW Group Malaysia was excited at the opportunity.
“We are also pleased to be the White Jersey Sponsor for the competition as the White Jersey is the award for the Best Asian Rider which signifies the discovery of local or regional talent and heroes in the sport,” he added.
