KUCHING: A school dropout and a senior citizen were among 41 people nabbed during a state-wide crackdown by police on illegal gambling activities here last week.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 70, were arrested at 26 locations in the state during the week-long operation, which ended yesterday.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said all suspects, which include 16 women, were arrested under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“A total of 26 people were arrested for operating and buying lottery tickets (4D) from illegal counters opened in public places.

“Mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationery were also seized during the arrest.

“The raiding party also seized RM6,633 (in cash),” said Dev in a statement today.
