Police arrest immigration officer accused of raping Thai masseuse at Malacca detention centre

AYER KEROH: Police have arrested an Immigration Department officer suspected of having raped a female Thai detainee at a detention centre earlier this month.

The officer, 31, was arrested at the Immigration Department, Home Ministry Complex here at 5.30pm yesterday.

Malacca deputy police chief Datuk Ruslan Hassan said police will apply for a remand order from the courts today to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

"We will also investigate claims that she was forced to perform sexual acts on the suspect, based on medical checks done on the victim," she said.

Ruslan was speaking to reporters after officiating the state-level Police Day celebrations at the Bukit Beruang police headquarters today.

Previously it was reported that a Thai masseuse, 32, had claimed that she was raped by an immigration officer and forced to perform oral sex on him while under detention at the Machap Umboo detention depot in Alor Gajah, on March 9.

Her sister, who was also being detained at the same depot, lodged a report on the incident after being released.

The Immigration Department has already summoned the officer concerned and disciplinary action will be initiated if the allegations are proven.
