LAHAD DATU: Splinter parties like Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Warisan Sabah stand no chance of winning in the upcoming general election (GE14), Silam Member of Parliament Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur said today.
He said that this is because such parties were formed based on the disappointment of disgruntled former Umno members.
"Based on (political) history, no splinter party has ever won in an election. Maybe they would win one or two seats, but they cannot sustain (their positions).
"In the past, we had Umno leaders and ulama who left Umno because they were not satisfied and formed Parti Negara and Pas to contest against us, but Umno never lost and Barisan Nasional continues to win.
"This is because Umno is not formed out of anger, but to protect Islam and the rights of the Malays and the Bumiputra," he said at the Negaraku: 1Malaysia Komuniti programme at Felda Sahabat here.
Nasrun said Umno’s and BN’s struggles are for all Malaysians, regardless of their religious and cultural backgrounds. He therefore urged the people to continue supporting the ruling party so that more development could be brought about.
"We give what is necessary and we deliver. We know our stand, but of course, the opposition will promise this and that.
"So when they come up with all these promises, I want everyone to think. It is our responsibility to ensure that the people will not be deceived by empty promises."
Nasrun thanked Felda Sahabat villagers who voted for him in the 13th general election and expressed confidence that BN will perform very well in the coming election.
