GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained five men and a boy in connection with last night’s shooting incident at a Hindu priest’s house at Jalan Satu, Air Itam here.
Northeast district police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the six, aged between 14 and 55, were arrested in Air Itam and Datuk Keramat.
"They have been remanded for a week to assist in investigations," he said.
In the 9.50pm incident, the 50-year-old priest was washing the porch of his house when a gunman fired three shots in his direction at close range. His wife and three children were indoors at the time of the incident.
None of the bullets hit the priest, leading police to believe that they were merely warning shots.
Earlier today, state deputy police chief Datuk Roslee Chik said they have identified the gunman, based on closed circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained.
"We are hunting him down," he added.
